Delta Singapore Hosts Candlelit Lunch for Earth Hour

A Creative Green Lunch at Work
Delta Singapore marked Earth Hour with a creative and green Candlelit Lunch as part of the ESG Earth Hour @ Work: Lights Off Lunch initiative. The activity took place on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, with non-essential lights switched off across selected office areas and a candlelit lunch gathering held at the Level 3 common area.

The simple setup created a cozy lunchtime experience for employees. Colleagues were also encouraged to keep their phones and laptops away for a short digital detox, giving everyone a chance to rest their eyes, clear their minds, and focus on being present.
Giving an Hour for Earth
The activity supported Earth Hour, a global movement led by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), by encouraging employees to pause, reflect, and act. Beyond switching off the lights, colleagues were invited to “Give an hour for Earth” by being more mindful of energy use, sustainability, and everyday habits that can make a difference.

A candlelit lunch was chosen because it was simple, symbolic, and inclusive. The soft candlelight created a calm and relaxed atmosphere, showing that sustainability does not have to be complicated to be meaningful.

A Sense of Calm and Presence
Around 30 employees from different departments and teams across the Singapore office joined the activity. Before the lunch, many were curious and excited to see how a candlelit setting would feel in the middle of a workday. After joining, they felt more relaxed, refreshed, and aware of how nice it can be to slow down for a while.

Without bright lights and screens, lunchtime felt quieter, warmer, and more personal. Impressive moments included seeing the office lights go off, sharing meals by candlelight, and enjoying genuine conversations without phones or laptops.
Simple Actions for Everyday Impact
One creative idea made the activity feel even more thoughtful: reusable glass food containers were given to colleagues who signed up for the Candlelit Lunch. The containers are a practical gift that employees can use for takeaway meals or home-prepared food during the lunch or in their daily routine, while also helping reduce single-use packaging.

The key takeaway is clear. Simple actions matter. Switch off what is not needed. Take a break from screens. Bring a reusable container. It is about the choices we make every day. When many people choose these little habits together, the workplace becomes better, one lunch at a time. Through simple actions like these, Delta continues to foster a culture where sustainability is part of our daily work life.
