Driving Delta’s Sustainable Future: Achieving Clean Energy and GHG Reduction Goals by 2030 and Beyond

By Delta Thailand - Published September 24, 2024

At Delta Electronics, sustainability is not just a buzzword—it’s at the heart of everything we do. With ambitious plans to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and transition toward clean energy, Delta is leading the charge for a more sustainable future. Our goals are bold, but so are our efforts to achieve them. By 2030, we’re aiming for carbon neutrality, and by 2050, we’re working toward net-zero emissions. Each of us at Delta has a role to play in making this vision a reality.

In the short term, Delta plans to reduce 90% of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and cut Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030. But we’re going further. Our RE100 initiative is transitioning Delta to 100% renewable energy across global operations, which will help us dramatically cut Scope 2 emissions. Additionally, with the EV100/ZEV initiative, we’re transitioning to a fully electric vehicle fleet by 2030, further reducing our Scope 1 emissions.

The RE100 Initiative: Powering Delta with Clean Energy
Delta is on a mission to fully transition to 100% renewable energy by 2030. This global goal is already well underway, with Delta Thailand pushing to meet the target even sooner, by 2027. Since 2016, we’ve been leveraging solar energy with installations like solar rooftops and solar car parks, generating 7.7 MWp of clean energy—and this is just the start. As we continue to build new facilities, we’re making clean energy part of every plan, helping to reduce our environmental footprint and contribute to a greener planet.

The EV100/ZEV Initiative: Driving the Future with Electric Vehicles
It’s not just about the energy we use—it’s also about how we move. That’s where our EV100/ZEV initiative comes in. Delta is committed to transitioning our entire fleet, from executive cars to transport trucks and even forklifts, to fully electric by 2030. This is a major step toward reducing our Scope 1 emissions and promoting electric vehicle (EV) usage among our employees. Together, we’re not only cutting emissions but also inspiring others to follow suit, helping to create a cleaner, greener world—one vehicle at a time.

Smart Energy Management: Efficiency at Every Step
Being sustainable is not just about setting big goals—it’s about making smart decisions every day. That’s why we’ve integrated Energy Management Systems (EnMS) across all our operations. By following ISO 50001 standards, we’ve improved energy efficiency and reduced waste. Using our own advanced solutions like VT SCADA and DIA Energy, we ensure our machines run as efficiently as possible. From adopting high-efficiency equipment to reducing ozone-depleting refrigerants, Delta is leading by example.

Building Greener Products: Carbon Footprint Assessments
At Delta, we’re not just making products—we’re making greener products. Through Carbon Footprint Product (CFP) assessments, we measure the environmental impact of everything we produce. This allows us to refine our processes and deliver eco-friendly solutions to our customers. Multiple Delta product models have already undergone these assessments, reflecting our commitment to sustainability at every stage of production.Overcoming Challenges: Pushing Through to Achieve Our Goals

While our progress is strong, there are always challenges along the path to sustainability. In Thailand, for instance, solar energy currently accounts for just 6% of our total energy needs, even after fully utilizing available rooftop space. That’s why Delta is actively working with energy regulators and exploring options like Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and Utility Green Tariffs (UGT) to bring in more green energy. We’re also tackling the rising demand from global customers to decarbonize our supply chain—ensuring we stay ahead of industry expectations.

Looking Ahead: Our Next Steps for a Greener Tomorrow
We’re not in this alone. Delta is forging partnerships with energy providers and industry leaders to unlock even more green energy solutions. We’re collaborating with our Industrial Automation team to develop smarter energy management systems that ensure we’re always operating at peak efficiency. And we’re working with logistics partners to reduce emissions across the entire supply chain—from raw materials to finished products.

As Mr. Saroj Ruangsakulraj Energy Management Senior Manager, shared during the seminar on "Clean Energy, Sustainability, and the Future of Business Survival in the Modern Era," hosted by Daily News and Daily News Online, “If we don’t act now, we’ll lose opportunities to compete globally, as customers are increasingly prioritizing eco-friendly products.” By committing to sustainable practices, we’re not just staying competitive—we’re leading the way.

At Delta, we understand that sustainability isn’t just about reaching targets—it’s about fulfilling our role as a global corporate citizen and making a positive impact on the world. Every step we take toward reducing our carbon footprint brings us closer to a net-zero future, contributing to the global effort to protect our planet. As we look to 2030 and beyond, we can take pride in the progress we’re making together. Whether it’s through clean energy, smart management, or greener products, Delta employees are at the heart of this global transformation. Let’s keep pushing forward, knowing that our collective efforts today are shaping a better, more sustainable tomorrow for future generations.
