Melbourne, Australia, October 10, 2019 – Delta Australia and our partners Nissan Australia and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) launched the trial phase of our joint solar energy EV charging research project.

Funded by the Victorian Government, this milestone joint research develops environment-friendly and cost-efficient solar power chargers for EV owners that don’t require updates to grid connections
and can even operate in remote areas of Australia that don’t have grid power.

Delta developed the project’s solar-powered chargers which integrate our residential RPI Series Photovoltaic (PV) E5 inverter, BX 6.0 battery and AC Mini Plus EV charger in a single system.

Mr. David Leal, Director of Delta Australia & Eltek Australia, said, “Delta Electronics Australia successfully developed a solution combining a solar system with battery storage and EV charging. The idea has gone from prototype to a commercially ready field product in a short space of time. The success of this partner project has also encouraged us to push on with the development of solutions in higher-powered EV charging adapting.”

The system completed initial tests on performance in various environmental conditions at the CSIRO Monash facility’s temperature control chambers. CSIRO researchers developed and tested the system, incorporating a range of heat management strategies to ensure batteries charge and discharge efficiently. Now researchers are testing three solar charging modules, capable of charging four vehicles each, over 200 days using multiple Nissan LEAFs at Nissan Australia’s national headquarters.
