On April 8, 2022, Delta Thailand held events at each of our plants to celebrate the Thai New Year Songkran and wish everyone a safe trip home for the 1-week long holiday. This year, we encouraged everyone to continue practicing prevention and safety measures during festivities at the company and at home to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Due to the COVID-19, this year we had a limited number of people participating in company activities. Delta also could not have the Songkran water pouring ceremony or water splashing and cooling powder games which are one of the highlights of this Thai festival.
This year we celebrated with traditional Thai activities. From 6:30 to 7:30 in the morning Delta people arriving for the day shift at Delta Plant 5 could offer candles, incense and flower garlands to the image of a Hindu Brahma god housed in our spirit house and pray for safety and prosperity in the coming year.Observing the Thai tradition of merit-making, people could also place offerings of food, drink or flowers into the alms bowls of Buddhist monks and receive blessings.
From 7:30 to 8:30, the monks held a service in the Delta Plant 5 lobby with management participating in the rites and offering a full course brunch to the monks in appreciation of their blessing.Despite a more quiet Songkran Festival this year, everyone enjoyed the opportunity to reflect and pray for a better year. We also enjoyed a well-deserved break to travel to our hometowns.
