In 2023, the theme for International Women’s Day is Embracing Equity. This timely theme ties in well to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion or DEI initiative that started here in Delta Thailand and is now spreading across our worldwide Delta locations.

With a large female-majority workforce, Delta Thailand is a natural place for the development of DEI. Thailand is a culturally diverse and tolerant society and DET has a strong commitment to Human Rights as indicated by the UN, ILO and RBA.

At our open discussion, DET Sustainable Development Manager Aonthip Aorthong, said, “Equity should be something more fair (than just equality) and fit different expectations of employees according to their unique needs. For example, at Delta we have a breastfeeding corner for mothers. Employees here over 10 years can get long-service awards. Parents can apply for the Delta Family Education Fund not just for themselves but also for their children.”

Around the world we also see progress in diversity with Southeast Asians and South Asians gaining visibility on the world stage. At this year’s historic Oscars, Michelle Yeoh became the first Malaysian and Asian woman to ever win the Best Actress award. Vietnamese co-star Ke Huy Quan won the Best Supporting Actor award. “Elephant Whisperers” by Indian filmmakers won the Best Documentary Short award and the Indian creators of “Naatu Naatu” won the Best Original Song award.

Therefore, in this issue of 360, we have a special International Women’s Day edition of our popular DET Voices mini-podcast. Here six DET women in Production and Admin roles talk frankly about how we can all embrace equity and support women.

In the Focus section, Genalyn Llorando, Country Sales Manager EIS Philippines, shares her exclusive interviews with her female colleagues in the EVCS BU at Delta Taiwan headquarters on the theme-Embracing Equity to the Women of the Past, Today and Tomorrow.
